dream shoes

hello! i've been all over the place lately, which means i've been generally pathetic at blog posting. sometimes you just have to put down the camera and watch tv with your boyfriend for a few days. anyway, many exciting things have happened while i've been away. i've started making dresses with my previously neglected sewing machine. i found a brilliant 60's dress pattern, tried to figure out what all of the steps meant, and managed to make three successful dresses. i'll have to show you them soon!
today i will show you my super nice new shoes from asos. i'd been dying over them for months but my boyfriend thought they were too ridiculous to buy. eventually they were so heavily discounted that he let me have them. i generally don't wear heels because i'm already quite tall, so these will take a while to get used to. they're impossibly high, but also impossibly cute so it all works out just fine with me. if you're interested, you can find them here.

i've also bought an iphone recently, which is awfully exciting. although, i have to admit that my decision to buy it was largely influenced by instagram (you can find me by searching allthatisfine). naturally, i've already ordered a billion cute iphone cases on ebay, and found a bunch of cute cake-themed wallpapers to use on rotation.

preparing for winter days

yesterday a large package arrived from asos with lots of nice things inside. i've been very active on asos lately, probably because of the damn lot of sales they keep having. in this particular order i got some thigh-high blue knitted socks, a cosy cream-coloured aran sweater, a super nice neck scarf with blue and red stripes (although for some reason the rest of it is a boring brown colour instead of the cream that i was expecting), some candy-shaped earrings and a super nice bag that i've used every day since. in a few days another order is due to arrive with black t-bar shoes and a few cute pairs of socks to accompany them. other than spending most of my time on asos, i've been on an avid hunt for the perfect red sweater and blue cropped jacket. i'm also waiting for about a thousand cute 60's dresses to arrive from etsy, due to a realisation a few weeks back that my collection was looking a bit sad.

a small adventure

today we drove and we drove and we drove to this little place in coolangatta. there is a small row of retro/antique stores which i like very much. we didn't find many things to buy, but it was all very nice to look at. i almost bought an old hair dryer just for the beautiful case it came in. and old toy cars are so damn cool! later we found that there were also many nice and rewarding op shops and small little boutiques along the esplanade.

here is what i found! first is a dress which reminds me of the 60's. there's a little silver belt buckle in the very center which looks so damn cool, and it zips up along the front. it's short and cute and i like it very much.

next is a bow for my hair or my clothes. it works quite nicely, i think. later i will show you a neck scarf with an amazing horse print on it, which i found at the antiques market.

and finally, another nice dress. it's also very 60's, and has a similar tartan print to the first dress, which unfortunately does not photograph well. it's awfully cute, though!

market buys

today, as promised, i went to the suitcase rummage. it was loads of fun and there were many nice people selling lots of cheap things. most people were selling second-hand clothes, while others brought along sweet little homemade wares. some people had even baked cupcakes for the occasion! it was all very nice, but i got a little sick of rummaging and rifling towards the end. anyway, here are a couple of the things i've been buying over the last few days.

1. a beautiful spotted neck scarf from the rummage.
2. a nice brown dress from the 60's that my boyfriend found for me in the rummage.
3. another rummage dress that looks really cute on but is a little too big.
4. a skirt that i spent too much money on at the finders keepers market. it's pretty damn nice. it flares out at the sides just like those american apparel circle skirts.

1. the nicest bracelet in the world from the finders keepers market. it reminds me of bit of those hermes bracelets that i love.
2. a gold bow which arrived in the mail a few weeks ago. it's an old avon brooch and it's really nice but i never get the chance to wear it.

and this little guy was only a dollar!

today i spent many hours scrolling through pages of 60's dresses on ebay, then decided to do some sewing.

i have a large pile of clothes desperately needing alteration, so i got to work.

this was my first victim. the skirt is way too big, and the pleats are unflatteringly low, so i had to move around zippers and alter hems and everything. unfortunately, i am not the world's finest sewer. i get so impatient that i end up making a lot of silly mistakes, then assure myself that i can cover it all up with a belt.

this was the very sad result. i decided that i preferred scrolling through pages of 60's dresses on ebay.

what was nice about all of this was that i got to sit at my very sweet little workstation, and look at these while i sewed.
